Why your Google Business Profile matters
When someone searches "restaurant near me" or "best gym in Pune" on Google, the first results they see are from Google Maps. These are called the "local pack" — the top 3 businesses shown on the map.

1. Claim and verify your profile
Go to google.com/business and claim your business profile. Google will send a postcard with a verification code, or you can verify by phone or email in some cases. Once verified, your profile goes live on Google Maps.

2. Choose the right business category
Your primary category is the most important ranking factor. Choose the most specific category that fits your business. "Restaurant" is okay, but "North Indian Restaurant" or "Pure Veg Restaurant" is better.
You can also add secondary categories. Add all the categories that apply to your business. This helps Google show your business for more searches.
3. Write a complete business description
Your description should clearly explain what you do, what areas you serve, and why customers should choose you. Use keywords naturally — do not stuff them. Keep it under 750 characters.
Mention your main services, your unique selling points, and a call-to-action like "Call us today to book your appointment."
4. Add high-quality photos
Businesses with more photos get more clicks and calls. Add photos of your storefront, interior, team, products, and happy customers. Make sure the photos are clear and well-lit.
Add new photos regularly — at least once a week. Google favors businesses that keep their profile active and updated.
5. Collect and respond to reviews
Reviews are the second most important ranking factor. Ask every happy customer to leave a review. The more 5-star reviews you have, the higher you rank. Set up a QR code in your shop that links directly to your review page.
Always respond to reviews — both good and bad. Thank customers for positive reviews. Apologize and offer to fix any issues mentioned in negative reviews. This shows Google you are an active, caring business.
